Discerning God’s Voice in your life can be challenging at times, especially when you are going through a storm. Believers often make the mistake of thinking that they are experiencing a storm because of disobedience. The truth is that, most of the time, we find ourselves in a storm because we have actually been obedient.
Jesus said: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33.
Storms are not there to destroy us, but to move us closer to our destination. When the disciples experienced a storm, it took their relationship with Jesus from the best place to the worst. They accused Him of not caring about them, because He was sleeping soundly on a pillow in the stern when they felt they needed Him.
Jesus, by His example, demonstrates that the storms in which we have authority over in our lives are the ones that we can have peace, rest, and even sleep through in the natural. He is not moved by fear, but by faith.
Responding in fear, or responding in faith is entirely up to you – but what you decide will ultimately determine the outcome. Circumstances cannot determine nor influence your position in Christ – only your faith in Him can do that. Do not allow your emotions to be the measurement of your relationship with God.
At times it might feel like He is sleeping during your storm – but whether or not you are aware of His presence, He promised to never leave you, nor forsake you. He is with you, always.
